Here’s the deal:

SEO does work.

I’ll prove why it works:

Let’s say you live in Denver and you’re a personal trainer.

Now, someone in Denver is looking to get in shape. So they type into Google “Personal Trainers in Denver.”

The person who is located at the top of the first page of Google (**cough cough** because of good SEO **cough cough**) is probably going to get more business than someone on the 4th page of Google (**cough cough** because of bad SEO **cough cough**).

Make sense?

Wrap your head around it – Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an integral part of business success today.

To have a successful business, you’ll need to have a website.

But…having a website isn’t enough, though. You could have the most beautiful website out there, but if nobody is coming to your website (or the wrong people who aren’t willing to buy), then you’re website is practically useless.

Let me rephrase my statement from above.

To have a successful and growing business, you must have a properly optimized website with good Search Engine Optimization that gets found locally for relevant online searches. 

With some local business online marketing strategies, a little bit of website optimization, and the right amount of SEO, you could create that website.

To set the record straight though, it’s not all unicorns and rainbows:

It takes a lot of work to optimize your website and do good SEO, so small business owners often hire an SEO consultant, or freelancer/so-called expert to do the work for them.

There are thousands of them out there claiming they’re the best, they’re the experts. I’m sure if you just check your inbox. One of them sent you an email today.

If you type SEO Denver, Denver Search Engine Optimization, SEO Service Denver, Denver SEO marketing, or any of the other hundreds of things that people search for in Google in Denver, then you’ll see what I mean…

So you have to be careful of these scammers.

That’s why I’m writing this article:

As a business owner, you need to avoid falling into the traps of fraudsters. You need to make informed decisions.

To shed some light on that, this article will take you through top 5 things every business owner must know before investing in SEO.

  1. Sniff Out SEO Agencies…

As I said before, there are literally thousands of SEO Agencies out there. Unfortunately, many of them can’t be trusted. Some are simply frauds and others are newbies who have NO clue what they’re doing – you’re basically a paying Guinea Pig.

I mentioned that if you type into Google something like Denver SEO Service or Denver SEO Firm you’ll see a bunch of them… But take it up a notch and type Colorado SEO Agency or a more general term like SEO Company into Google…

It’s insane.

How do you know who to trust?

Do your research:

  • Look at their Google reviews, Facebook reviews, etc.
  • See if they explain their process on their website
  • Find out when they were founded

Ask the right questions:

  • Ask to see case studies of prior businesses they’ve worked with
  • Ask them if you can get your money back if they don’t perform
  • Ask them specific questions about what they would do for YOUR website to increase its SEO
  • Ask them which tools they use
  • Can they guarantee that your site will rank #1 for a major search term? (If they say yes you know they’re lying because no one can guarantee that..)
  1. Don’t Expect Overnight Results

Even if you hire the best SEO Agency out there, you aren’t going to get overnight results.

Improving your SEO takes time.

We argue that seeing observable SEO results will take between four and six months.

Although there will always be a few select cases where websites can jump to the top of Google in a matter of days, it’s very uncommon.

And if firms promise you that they use cutting-edge SEO techniques to achieve these ridiculous short-term goals, those SEO tactics could do more harm than good.

You have to understand that certain things are not allowed by Google’s standards – and if Google catches you trying to hack the system, your SEO will plummet and Google will be very wary of allowing you back to the top.

  1. Good SEO Does Not Equal Business Success

There’s this false belief out there that I HATE:

“If you’re an entrepreneur with good SEO, then you’re going to be successful.”

That’s just not true.

Your website may be enjoying massive web traffic, but if you have not put adequate measures to tap on the potential of that traffic, then who cares?

As a business owner, before you can even think of investing in SEO, you have to make sure that you’re ready.

  • Do people want to buy what you’re selling?
  • Do you have an optimized website that will convert?
  • Do you have enough back-stock in place for heavy traffic?
  • Can you spend the money on SEO and be patient enough to wait up to 6 months for a return?

SEO in itself is not a success. It’s what you do with the SEO results that count.

  1. SEO Can Be a Self-Sustaining Investment

One of the first things you should look into when hiring an SEO service is the cost.

Let’s go back to the basics of business:

Your revenue has to exceed your costs to have profit.

But you have to remember that in the initial stages of SEO implementation you’re going to be spending MORE than the revenue generated, since increasing your SEO takes time.

But here’s where it gets fun:

Once you have optimized your SEO and all that beautiful traffic starts flowing to your website, there’s a good chance that’ll last for a while! You’ll enjoy the benefits of good SEO long after you stop paying for the services.

Here’s why:

Google is smart. Once you increase your SEO and people start spending time on your website, buying from you, reading your articles, etc, then Google will say “Hmmm, this website is pretty good. I’m going to keep it towards the top.”

  1. SEO Can Either Build or Destroy You.

You have to be smart.

If you invest in a reputable SEO firm with an incredible track record, then you’re most likely going to have an improved online experience with increases in revenue over time.

But if you don’t do your research and invest in an SEO agency that’s either a fraud or new to the game, then you’re bound to lose a shit-ton of money (pardon my French…).

Just one wrong move that Google has classified as illegal from an SEO agency will not only ruin your online reputation, but will forever hurt your SEO. It’s hard to bounce back from something like that.
